Baby Bibs

I cut some fat quarters into the shape of baby bibs...

I spent some time deciding if these should be two-sided or one....

cut, cut, cut...

Since I did this before I picked up my Simplicity Bias Tape Maker, I used some store-bought tape (and I will make my own from now on....)
The dark yellow bias tape was made, the light yellow purchased. Here are a few bibs..I just cut the neck free-hand, because my friend's baby isn't born yet and I didn't have a baby handy to practise on...Did you know bibs are basically one size fits all?

  1. You've got a lucky friend ... though I'll admit, before I saw your note about not having the Simplicity Bias Tape Maker yet, I wondered if the bibs were simply an excuse to make lots and lots of bias tape ;). Do you already have a project in mind for when you get the tape maker?

    1. Hi Meraj, I actually have the bias tape maker now - i got it about a week ago - but i didn't have ti when I made these bibs...and I've been so busy that I haven't had a chance to use it at all. But I see a lot of Hong Kong seams in my future....

  2. I made a few bibs just to have as gifts! They are perfect for that!

  3. When my babies needed bibs I liked two kinds. The first were pretty and the second were towelling, absorbent bibs. As they got bigger and sat in a highchair and fed themselves they had a plastic bib that curled up at the bottom to make a 'catcher'. I was always so amused to watch them 'thumb' through and choose what to eat from what had ended up in this part of the bib when their plates were empty.

By the way - I just got a note from Amazon to say that my Gertie book is on its way!! Still can't persuade myself to pay the exhorbitant amount charged for the bias maker her in the UK!

  4. The combination of the title (barely scanned) and the first few words of your post in the email update made me think for a moment that you were talking about baby back ribs and had extended your sewing blog to include barbecue. Alas, it was not to be.

  5. These bibs are cute and such a great, easy idea for gifts :)
